The first 1 Million Cups event in Pensacola was an overwhelming success. We had over 45 attendees with over half being active entrepreneurs and many others indicating that they were considering becoming an entrepreneur.

Our kick-off presenter, Alex Hill with Florida Coconuts talked about how he came upon the idea for founding his company and the success it is having as well as the challenge of re-branding. Most notably, he talked about how he is using the by-product of the coconuts to make cocopeat and coir. Talking about sustainable products, a question was raised about the negative environment impact of using plastic straws and another attendee found a source of bio-degradable straws which Alex immediately acted upon by ordering them for his next event.

Another interesting by-product Alex talked about was the need for an industrial strength coconut opener and their frustration of going through too many weaker ones and how that led them to design, in his words, the worlds strongest coconut opener.

The audience participation was also overwhelming with many, many questions being asked - so many in fact that some questioners moved around the room to try to get Alex's attention.

All-in-all, a great event with lots of incredible energy in the room, partially caused by the fresh, organically grown coffee provided by the award winning coffee roaster Amavida Coffee.

The next event will be April 25th @ 9:00am.
